Who provides Roamkeep

Roamkeep is provided by David Carabetta, an individual developer in Australia (“we”, “us”). Contact: support@roamkeep.app.

By installing or using Roamkeep you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use it.

Roamkeep is not an emergency service

The SOS feature sends an alert to the other members of your Keep. It does nothing else. It does not contact police, ambulance, fire services or any monitoring centre. Nobody at Roamkeep sees it. No one is on call.

In an emergency, call 000 (or your local emergency number). Do not use Roamkeep instead of doing so, and do not wait for it.

Roamkeep is not a personal safety device, a medical alert system, a security product, or a substitute for supervising a child.

Location is best-effort, and will sometimes be wrong or absent

Roamkeep depends on a phone, its battery, its operating system, its permissions and a network. Every one of those can interrupt it, and in normal use they do. A location may be stale, inaccurate by tens or hundreds of metres, or missing entirely because:

• the phone is off, flat, in flight mode, or has no signal
• location permission was declined, revoked, or reduced to “while using the app”
• the operating system suspended or stopped the app to save power — Android does this routinely, and some manufacturers do it aggressively
• battery optimisation is switched on for Roamkeep
• satellite positioning is poor indoors, underground, in vehicles, or among tall buildings
• an adult member has paused their own location sharing, which they are entitled to do at any time

The absence of an alert is not evidence of anything. If no “arrived” notification appears, that does not mean a person has not arrived. Treat what Roamkeep shows as a hint, never as a fact, and never as the basis for a decision that matters.

Your family’s data is yours, and so is the database

Roamkeep stores nothing centrally. Your family creates and controls its own database with a third-party provider, and your family is responsible for it: its credentials, its cost, its configuration, and who is invited into it. See the Privacy Policy for what is stored and where.

We have no access to it. We cannot recover it, reset it, or retrieve anything from it on your behalf. Anyone holding your setup link can reach your Keep’s sign-up screen, so share it like an address, not a password.

The notification relay

One small component is operated by us: a relay that wakes phones when a notification is due. It carries no content — see the Privacy Policy.

It is provided on a best-effort basis with no guarantee of availability. It may be rate-limited, interrupted, or withdrawn. When it is unavailable, notifications simply appear the next time the app is opened; nothing is lost from your database.

Using Roamkeep responsibly

Location sharing between people who have agreed to it is the only use this app is for.

• Every adult in a Keep must know they are in it and agree to it. Adults can pause their own sharing at any time.
• A parent or guardian is responsible for members of their household who cannot consent for themselves, and for explaining to them that their location is shared.
• Do not use Roamkeep to track anyone covertly, or for stalking, harassment, intimidation, or controlling another person. This is the most important rule on this page.
• Do not use it unlawfully, or in breach of the terms of any service it depends on.

Because your data is in your own database, we cannot see this happening and cannot intervene in it. That is a direct consequence of the privacy design, and it places the responsibility with you.

The software licence

Roamkeep’s source is published under the Business Source License 1.1. That licence governs the code — reading it, modifying it, running it for your own family. These terms govern your use of the published app and the relay. Neither grants any right to the Roamkeep name or logo.

Donations

Roamkeep is free. Donations are voluntary, unlock no features, and confer no licence, warranty, support entitlement, or priority of any kind. There are no paid features to unlock.

No warranty

Roamkeep is provided “as is”. To the maximum extent permitted by law we make no warranties of any kind, and do not warrant that it will be accurate, available, uninterrupted, or fit for any particular purpose.

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any guarantee, right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law, or under any other law, that cannot lawfully be excluded. Where a guarantee cannot be excluded but our liability for failing to comply with it can be limited, our liability is limited to supplying the software again or paying the cost of having it supplied again.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, Roamkeep. That includes loss arising from location data that was late, inaccurate, missing or misinterpreted; from a notification that did not arrive; from the relay being unavailable; or from anything that happens to your own database.

Roamkeep is supplied free of charge. To the extent our liability cannot be excluded, it is limited in aggregate to AUD $100.

Changes, and stopping

We may change or discontinue Roamkeep, including the relay, at any time. Because your data is in your own database, discontinuation does not take it away from you — the app is source-available and the database remains yours.

You can stop at any time: disconnect the device in Settings, leave your Keep, or delete your database entirely.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change materially, the date at the top of this page will change and the change will be noted in the app’s release notes.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, and you submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of its courts.
